A Very 50's Feeling

When I decided to use David Klein’s “New York Fly TWA” poster for my motion graphics project, I knew it needed a song that captured the essence of the late 50’s and was reflective of the city that never sleeps. After days of searching I finally found Sammy Davis Jr.’s song “When the Feeling Hits You” and the animation came alive in my head.

It's All in the Details

Although the airplane is a small part of Fly TWA poster design, I still felt it was important to include. Since the resolution of the airplane was low, I recreated it with the airbrush tool in Procreate and added a motion blur to hide any discrepancies in the details.

Sequence of Events

Looking at Klein’s poster, I imagined myself as a hustling New Yorker, flying by bright building and taxi lights. It was important to me that I captured that feeling of beauty and excitement in my animation. In the same way his shapes are arranged in an organized chaos, I carefully planned each sequence to be balanced yet tumultuous through varying speeds and direction.
