My Role in the Show

As Vice President of the Graphic Design Senior Student Association, GDSSA, I helped organize and manage the annual Visual Communication Design poster show and auction. This year, my poster design (above image) was selected to represent our show out of 44 submissions.

The pandemic may have kept us a minimum of six feet apart, but my involvement in this event made me feel connected. I was regularly reaching out to designers and studios for poster donations, constantly collaborating with my GDSSA teammates, and taking an active role in our state by helping support a local organization. The theme for my poster couldn’t have come more naturally, and my passion for the subject fueled its visualization. My final design was inspired by a combination of acquired illustrating techniques, inspirational artwork, and social media feed.

Tell Them About It

Marketing the poster show became more integral and important than years past due to the Coronavirus. The annual in-person event turned virtual, providing the unique opportunity to extend our reach globally, make a larger profit, and donate to Covid-19 relief in Arizona. For the poster show, I joined the marketing committee and designed graphics for social media and email.

Our First Virtual Auction

Our beautifully designed website allowed customers to bid on silent auction posters, view the live auction posters, join our discord for live events, donate to the Arizona Community Response Fund for Covid-19, and learn about our show. The site was developed with WordPress and WooCommerce. On the silent auction page, customers could see every poster with their current prices. There was also a continuous live stream in the corner that notified prospective buyers every time there was a bid.
